Humanity produces almost 400 million tonnes of plastic annually. From that amount, 12 million tonnes end up in the ocean every year. With this tempo, there will be more plastic than fish in our seas by 2050. We want to prevent that, which is why we are expanding our collection of clothing from recycled material. Help us clean the oceans!
Slow-fashion vs fast-fashion
Clothes can have a positive impact on the environment, too. Our first instinct was to look for highly durable and lasting clothing sourced in Europe. That made us a worthwhile competition to the so-called “fast fashion” products - cheap pieces manufactured in unfair conditions that fall apart after the first wash.
However, we decided to go even further, and thanks to the SEAQUALTM company, we have found a way to remove waste from oceans. By buying clothing made of SEAQUALTM materials, you take part in the fight for cleaner oceans.
Why SEAQUALTM ?
The Spanish company SEAQUALTM unites individuals and companies who want to help clean the oceans of plastics and spread awareness of the plastic pollution of seas, rivers and beaches. Even though ocean plastics are more difficult to recycle, the SEAQUALTM initiative found a solution to bring them back to life and use them to make beautiful and sustainable products.
The ocean waste used to manufacture SEAQUALTM fibres comes from the area around Europe, the Mediterranean and the western shores of Africa. After sorting and cleaning, this plastic is turned into flakes. These are later processed into upcycled plastic granules with universal applications, such as manufacturing functional fitness leggings.

Clothes from plastic bottles
However unbelievable it may sound, the same plastic fibres used to make PET bottles have also been used for decades in the clothing industry. Polyester is a great material for sports and functional clothes. If it used to be a plastic bottle or a part of a fishing net in the past, it does not lower its quality. Its extremely long lifespan and durability might be a disadvantage, but it also means that it can be recycled repeatedly, turning into different products along the way.
Sportswear from the SEAQUALTM material has the same functional attributes as new polyester:

2019
